Our Future Vision: Making Accessibility a Priority

Our vision is for The Nesting Post to be a leading provider of sustainable, inclusive boutique holiday accommodation on The Southern Downs and Granite Belt; to be renowned not only for our commitment to the environment but also for our inclusive, thoughtful approach to hospitality.

At The Nesting Post, we believe that everyone deserves to be bathed in the warm glow of a sustainable, off grid retreat and to experience the beauty, charm, and serenity of the Southern Downs. Rooted in our personal values and professional backgrounds, we aim to create a space where all guests feel safe, welcome, and supported. Our approach to accessibility is grounded in respect, inclusion, and thoughtful design, with a special focus on making your stay as comfortable as possible.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

As educators and keen lifelong students, inclusion is deeply embedded in everything we do. Ros holds a Master of Education (Inclusive Education) and has worked extensively in special needs and culturally diverse communities. Roy, with a Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Studies), brings a wealth of experience in building respectful, inclusive spaces. Together, we are committed to providing a warm, welcoming environment for all people, including those with disabilities and from any cultural or community background.

We understand the importance of communication and support, and we are able to engage with guests of all abilities in a respectful and accommodating way. Whether it’s offering guidance, helping with specific needs, or simply enjoying a chat in the garden, we strive to ensure that all our guests feel valued and accepted.

Sensory-Aware Design: A Thoughtful Approach to Accessibility

Understanding that accessibility goes beyond physical modifications, we have designed The Nesting Post to be mindful of sensory needs, particularly for guests with cognitive disabilities, autism, anxiety or those simply seeking a peaceful and calming environment. Our sensory-aware design reduces overload and creates a soothing atmosphere, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone.

Simple, Clutter-Free Design: Our interior is designed with simplicity in mind, offering visual calm through neutral colours and a soothing palette.

Natural Textures: Soft, natural fibre textiles are used throughout the cottage, adding to the sense of tranquillity.

Lighting: We maximize natural light with large windows and lightweight linen curtains, while providing a range of lighting options—lamps, traditional overhead lighting, and LED flameless candles. We do not use fluorescent or compact fluorescent lighting, and all windows are fitted with block-out blinds for restful sleep.

Noise Management: Acoustic insulation in bathrooms, soft-close cabinetry, and quiet appliances help maintain a peaceful environment. Every room can also be closed off to provide additional privacy or reduce noise. The cottage is situated back from the front property boundary, and located on quiet country bitumen road.

Quiet Retreat Spaces: Our cosy daybed nook offers a safe, quiet space for moments of retreat, ideal for guests managing sensory overload or simply needing a break from stimulation. The back alfresco area also provides a private quiet area in nature, while the solitary sandstone meditation block has been strategically placed under shady trees to take advantage of the sweeping views.

Sensory-Friendly Library: Our library includes beautifully illustrated books and periodicals with recycled paper, natural matte finishes, and muted printing for a gentle sensory experience.

Art and Music: We provide a variety of art materials and a portable Bluetooth speaker. The cottage is free from the distraction and blue light of television, radio, or streaming devices.

Scent: Our toiletries and cleaning products are naturally derived and lightly scented. Our handmade, bespoke house scent was designed by Rewild Co Perfumery and is created by Amanda Stevens in small batches using time honoured perfumery practices and ingredients. For those who enjoy aromatherapy, an essential oil diffuser is available.

Physical Accessibility at The Nesting Post

The Nesting Post is a lovingly restored 1929 Queenslander cottage, and while we have made careful choices to preserve its charm, its heritage design does come with some physical limitations. When considering staying at The Nesting Post these key details regarding the property’s physical accessibility features may assist your decision making.

Entry: The cottage is set on stumps, with three steps at the rear entry and five at the front.

Parking: There is accessible parking close to the entry, making it easier to access the property.

Lighting: Permanent low-level solar lighting illuminates the pathway leading to the entrance.

Ensuites: Each of our two ensuites includes a walk-in shower and step-in clawfoot baths. While they do not feature grab rails, the walk-in showers provide an easy-entry option.

Garden: The cottage is surrounded by a large country garden. There are no hard surfaced paths and some areas of the ground are uneven.

Though physical modifications are limited due to the cottage’s heritage roots, we have worked thoughtfully to maximize comfort for all guests.

A Warm Welcome for All

At The Nesting Post, our goal is simple: to provide all guests with a genuine, high-quality country stay that reflects the charm of the Southern Downs. We are committed to offering a space where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and safe.

We invite you to take a deep breath in, exhale slowly, and feel at home with us—where stories are told, love is shared, and memories are created.
