Sustainable Christmas Floristry Workshop
After a quiet year of workshops, we are delighted to announce that Kathryn Sommerlad, The Long Paddock Florist is back in our garden for a bush floristry workshop, just in time for Christmas.
Gather your girl gang, rouse the office crew or come on your own - everyone will be welcomed with joy - for a sunset soiree in the gardens of The Nesting Post, Allora on Saturday 14th December 2024 from 3.30pm.
Chat, connect, sip and graze while creating a sustainable Christmas centrepiece inspired by our Australian bush. As you make the final touches and the last tweaks to your floral arrangement, together we’ll look across the paddocks and watch the sun set dip below the horizon and together say, ‘cheers!’ Our time in nature and together is sure to leave you feeling more ground, more connected and more peaceful.
Let the golden hour soothe your soul while Kathryn gently guides you to use interesting bush foliage and simple long-lasting flowers to create a free-flowing arrangement featuring a natural beeswax pillar candle hand crafted by Serene's Beeswax Chandlery, Killarney in a farmhouse timber box made especially for the workshop by The Men's Shed Warwick. Supporting local businesses is an important part of our commitment to fostering sustainable communities and promoting local rural providers.
The Long Paddock Florist is passionate about finding eco-friendly alternatives to the products used by many commercial florists which are harmful to both people and our environment. Floral foam, often used for flower arrangements, is made from harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, which is harmful to humans and is not biodegradable, leading to plastic pollution. Microplastics from disintegrating floral foam contaminate ecosystems and water supplies, posing dangers to our waterways and potentially human health through bioaccumulation. Kathryn often turns to times past looking for traditional methods our gardening grandmothers and favourite aunts used to arrange flowers for family and friends. For this workshop, Kathryn will supply chicken wire and water containers to hold and nourish your arrangement so your beautiful arrangement will be long lasting, gentle on our environment and easy to create again over the festive season. These and the hand-crafted, bespoke timber box, made especially for you, will be able to be reused time and time again.
