The Nesting Post - more than a name
So why did we name our sweet restored cottage The Nesting Post? Well, after our other, original nesting post.
It's in the front garden, on the right as you drive in, a fence post, weathered and solid, standing sentry overlooking farmland and the Allora township. It might not look much, just a stump really, but it's a place of magic.
You see, for more than 75 years it's been a safe haven to generations of Eastern Rosellas that have nested, nurtured and protected their young, each season raising another clutch of fledglings that grow to bring vibrant beauty to the garden. The deep hollow of the post keeps them snug and safe and nurtured. It’s one of the reasons we value our roles as custodians of our land and the wildlife that lives here.
They live in the post year-round. You'll see them out and about. If you peep down the hollow, you might be lucky enough to see them at home - catching a glimpse of eggs in late Winter, then chicks in Spring. Be warned though, sometimes it’s quite the surprise when a squawking mother protests at your unannounced visit!
There is awe and wonder witnessing the the Rosellas and other birdlife around The Nesting Post. Their birdsong and antics are mesmerising; a grounding practice of mindfulness.
